I
made my last mortgage payment in November of 2007. It is
now the middle of May. I have had plenty of phone calls
to and from the mortgage company and plenty of letters
(no emails though as the mortgage collection departments
seem not to have discovered the Internet yet). All this
time has passed, and I still have not been served with
foreclosure papers from the county... and the sheriff
has not shown up either. I have already vacated the
house and moved into a rental condo having come to the
conclusion that there is no way that I will be able to
keep the house even if I file for bankruptcy (which I
have decided is not necessary at the moment - ask me why
in a comment and I will tell you). Had I known that I
could have lived in the house this long without making
any payments, I might have stayed in the house longer
although I do like the peace of mind not having to worry
about a hurried moving day once the sheriff actually did
show up.

I
think the mortgage industry and the lawyers and the
county are so backed up with foreclosure filings that
they just have not had time to process my paperwork. I
am sure my notices are coming, but I do wish they would
hurry up and get this over with. Every month that the
property remains in my name, I have to pay the
electricity bill, the water bill, the garbage bill and
cut the grass (so that the city will not fine me for
neglecting my yard). All of this is also having to be
paid on my new rental place so I am doubled up on my
utilities. It is okay at the moment as I am not making
the mortgage payments so that money can go to the
utilities and such.

I
suppose I could cut off all of the utilities, but I am
actually still trying to sell the house before it
actually goes into foreclosure - I have hopes of selling
it although it is only just a bit of hope.

This house is in Florida. Has anyone else been through
this in Florida recently? How long did it take for your
property to reach the foreclosure date? How long did you
have to maintain the yard and the utilities?
